Thank you to the 360 of you who participated in the online MEMO survey conducted in late spring; your input is valuable! On Monday, June 26, six members of the MEMO membership committee met in Osakis and the Twin Cities (via ITV) to
(1) review the results of the survey;
(2) determine areas of concern;
(3) discuss some possible courses of action; and
(4) to set some immediate goals.
While our discussions took us in many directions and prompted a large variety of suggestions about what could be done to meet our concerns, we were able to target several areas that we can begin to actively address now:
(1) how to connect with the people who staff our school library media centers in all MN schools (public and private) for mutual support and benefit;
(2) how to get the word out to the people who determine the futures of our school library media programs (administrators, school boards and legislators) that strong school library media programs boost student achievement;
(3) how to increase MEMO membership, and increase attendance at MEMO conferences/meetings throughout the year.
Several proposals for action will be brought to the board meeting at the summer leadership workshop. The membership committee, with input from you, will continue to meet and create some long range and short-term goals.
